Lighting Tips

  • Replace incandescent bulbs with Compact Fluorescent Lights which consumes up to 75% less energy and can last up to 10X longer.

  • Turn lights off when not in use.

  • Leave minimal lighting when you are not home.

  • Consider dimming switches.

  • Consider three-way lamps.

  • Regularly clean and inspect your lighting equipment.

Air Conditioning Tips

  • Close off unoccupied rooms and shut their vents.

  • Regularly inspect, clean and replace air conditioning filters.

  • Keep outside air conditioning system clean, free of leaves, trash, etc.

  • Insulate your house.

  • Consider solar powered fans in attics or basements.

  • Consider using ceiling fans to circulate cool air.

  • When you are away from home or work set the thermostat to 85°.

  • When at home, set thermostat to an average of 77°.

  • Turn off central air condition up to an hour before leaving.

  • Open windows and shades during the evening when its cooler.

  • Turn off lights, electronics (including computers) when they are not being used.

  • Do not place lamps or TV sets next to conditioning thermostat.

Heating Tip

  • Use warm blankets and clothes and set thermostat to 68° or lower during the day and evening.

  • Open blinds and drapes to absorb sun rays.

  • Close closet doors and doors to unused rooms.

  • Switch of heating when you are out of the house.

  • Choose heaters with thermostat controls and programmable timers.

  • Close the fireplace damper after the fire is out.

  • Do not use fireplaces while central heating is on.
