Welcome to our company! We specialize in properly allocating the use of water, trash, sewer, gas and electric utilities among tenants for apartment companies throughout the state of California. We provide a wide range of products and services in utility submetering, utility management and utility conservation.
RUBS is a method of allocating utility costs in apartments, condominiums, offices, shopping centers and other multi-unit complexes. The actual utility bill for the property is distributed to each resident based on an allocation formula. Generally speaking, factors in the formula can include one or a combination of:
- Number of occupants and/or a factored occupancy method;
- Unit’s square footage;
- Number of bathrooms and/or water fixtures;
Residents should confirm what formula is being used in their specific property. Studies promulgated by the National Apartment Association and National Multi-Housing Council have noticed a correlation between water conservation and separate billing for water usage. These studies found that individually metered apartments experience an 18-39% reduction in water consumption. It was shown that properties that use RUBS allocation formula had a water reduction usage between 6-27%.
